Ventura Center for Spiritual Living is blessed with a wide range of professional musicians who visit each week. All of our musicians are well known in many other spiritual centers. In addition, Ventura Center for Spiritual Living has a choir. All are welcome to join in the singing and the fun! Our soloists and choir are supported by our VCSL house band. Our music is certain to inspire and uplift you!
Led by Mary Kerrigan & Fred McFadden.
Our choir sings at Sunday services and other events. All voices are welcome. The choir rehearses after church most Sundays at 11:30.
Jon has been a player and teacher of music for most of his life. In brief, the 1968 Ohio State graduate taught jazz in Utah, arrived in Los Angeles in '76, was on The Toni Tennille Show live TV band in '80, started touring with Paul Anka in '83, and has now been Anka's musical director since '93. When in town on Sundays, the Ventura resident is delighted to play in the VCSL band!
David Parlato, bassist, composer, educator, was born and raised in a musical family in Los Angeles, California. Taking after his father, he began his musical life as a trumpet player. At age nineteen, he began to play the bass. He studied classical double bass with Nathaniel Gangursky and jazz bass with Monty Budwig.
As a free-lance musician in Los Angeles, he was very active in all facets of the music business
(recording, live television, concert and club dates). He also began a gratifying teaching career taking on private students on both electric and acoustic bass.
David has performed and recorded with such popular artists as Barbra Streisand, Henry Mancini, Nelson Riddle, Helen Reddy, Burt Bacharach, Andy Williams, Peter Allen, Jerry Lee Lewis, Glen Campbell, Liza Minelli, Paul Williams and Frank Zappa. He has worked with numerous jazz artists including Don Ellis, Bud Shank, Don Menza, Bobby Shew, John Klemmer, Frank Strazerri, Warne Marsh, Lee Konitz, James Moody, Kenny Davern, Gabor Szabo, Paul Horn, Shelly Manne, Frank Morgan, Herb Ellis, Doug Lawrence, Mose Allison, Greg Abate, Roger Kellaway and Buddy Rich.
Chris Kimbler has played piano professionally for many, many years. He has played for the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, PCPA, Actors Co-op Theatre Company, Civic Light Opera of South Bay Cities, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, Beverly Hills Playhouse, Rubicon Theatre Company, and the Lobero Theatre, just to name a few. We are very blessed to have him play for us at VCSL every Sunday as well as for our choir rehearsals and special occasions.
